Projects Projects ======== You have heard of child sponsorship but what about "Sponsor a Pig"! ------------------------------------------------------------------- ![Pig pen](/images/photos/sponsor_pig.jpg){left} As a means of helping our school for the deaf in the Philippines become more self supporting and less dependant on foreign giving and also as a means of providing employment for some of our deaf young people, DMI operates a piggery on the property we own in Ligao Philippines. Seed money was given by the DCF of Northern Ireland and some pigs purchased. This has developed into a growing business. However to make it completly independant of general school funds we want a revolving capital amount. How about sponsoring a pig? From birth to sale, a period of about 3 to 4 months costs us some $AUD80. The pig is then sold for about $AUD120 making a profit of $40. This is multiplied about three times each year resulting in a profit of $120. The original $80 is put back into raising two more pigs for the year. Your $80 gift can result in some $600 to the school over 5 years. We have at the moment 90 pigs which means $54,000 for the school over 5 years. If you would like help with the pig project, [contact us](mailto:info@deafmin.org) Sponsor a calamansi tree or a rambutan tree. -------------------------------------------- ![Rambutan Fruit](/images/photos/rambutan.jpg){left} Next to the piggery we have 2 hectares We want to plant 1000 calamansi trees and rambutan trees. Calamansi are a tiny little citrus fruit used extensively in the Philippines and rambutan are a hairy kind of lychee for use of a better description. $1.50 buys a seedling for planting. $US1500 pays for the lot. If you can't sponsor a pig how about a tree? [I'd like to sponsor a tree.](mailto:info@deafmin.org) Motor Bikes for Uganda. ----------------------- We currently need 3 motor bikes at about $1500 each for three deaf evangelists working in rural areas of Uganda including the war torn north. Deaf folk are scattered over large distances where public transport is either non existant or irregular. A motor bike for these young workers is essential. If you would like to purchase or partly purchase a motor bike, [let us know](mailto:info@deafmin.org).
